It’s very early in the evening, and thus far, the downballot results have been mostly a wash. Democrats are currently leading in two GOP-held districts (KY-06 and IN-05), while Republicans claim a lead in one Democratic-held district (FL-26). But we have many, many miles to go.
Polls have now closed in North Carolina, Ohio, and West Virginia.
Florida: We’ve hit the threshold in three long-shot races for Democrats. And, as expected, all three are going to the GOP: FL-15 (Republican Scott Franklin leads 52-48), FL-16 (Republican Vern Buchanan leads 54-46), and FL-18 (Republican Brian Mast leads 56-42).
Worth noting, as we get into the heavy part of the night. With the massive amount of early and mail voting, it will be hugely important to remember that we are the mercy of the counties and when they drop their votes. So things may look very good (or bad!) early. Patience, on this Election Night above all others, is required.
Polls have just closed in a boatload of states. The big ones, for our purposes, are Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
KY-Sen: The Associated Press calls the race for Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell.
FL-18: The AP calls this race for Republican Rep. Brian Mast, who defeated Democrat Pam Keith.
GA-06: Very early here, but with 73,000 votes (presumably most by mail), Democratic Rep. Lucy McBath leads 62-38 in her rematch with former Rep. Karen Handel.
