Former Vice President Joe Biden was supposed to be debating Donald Trump tonight in a town hall format that would have done Trump no favors even before the Commission on Presidential Debates turned it into a remote event. At that point, complaining that the moderators could “cut you off whenever they want,” Trump backed out. Instead, Biden is holding a town hall on ABC (watch now!) while Trump shows how petty he is by holding a competing one on NBC.
Good news is the town hall format is a lot better for Biden than Trump. The guy who empathizes with everyone versus the guy who interrupts everyone. And of course, Biden goes in with a big lead in the polls, so he just needs to keep doing what he’s been doing—listening to voters, taking people’s problems seriously, offering plans for COVID-19 and green jobs and protecting preexisting conditions and taking racial injustice seriously.
