As Daily Kos covered, White House senior advisor and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner appeared on Fox & Friends on Fox News on Monday morning. Kushner has made his TV appearances a pretty regular occurrence, especially when it comes to stepping up in defense of the Trump administration’s horrendous response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
On Monday, Kushner decided to put his neck out on behalf of his father-in-law when it comes to Black voters. Given that he appeared on Fox News to do this, it’s probably no surprise—though still absolutely horrifying—that he suggested Black Americans need to “want to be successful” if they want Trump’s policies to help them. And people on Twitter are happy to point out the many, many things wrong with Kushner’s statement. Let’s check out the video and excellent replies below.

First, here’s that video.
Jared Kushner on the Black community: "President Trump's policies are the policies that can help people break out of the problems that they're complaining about, but he can't want them to be successful more than that they want to be successful." pic.twitter.com/SX9vWiAfag

And here are some replies.
worth noting that “they just don’t want to work” has been in the racist’s bag of rhetorical tricks since the moment the ink was dry on the thirteenth amendment https://t.co/lrIJJA4fyU

If it weren't for nepotism, @jaredkushner would be Jared, the creepy north Jersey accountant with a weird voice who isn't terribly good at math, but sure, tell me again about how to be successful . https://t.co/uf3afDALCV

F$*&^ Jared K. I have never met a Black person that didn't want to be successful.

Ah yes, Trump's 39 year-old ghoulish son-in-law on TV spouting casual racism & the "bootstrap" myth 8 days before the election. "He can’t want them to be successful more than they want to be successful.” - Jared Kushner on Trump and the Black community pic.twitter.com/UAKHJX2pWH

Jared Kushner is the face of white privilege and nepotism. He doesn't want to change our racist, broken system because he benefits from it. He’s the last person that should be lecturing the Black community on the value of “hard work.” https://t.co/KyuTgPZv9a

Did Jared really just claim that Black people don't know what's good for us? I'm guessing his next statement about us will be that we don't know our place, either. How can someone who wasn't yet born in the 1950's have such a 1950's outlook on life?

Dear #JaredKushner , You say “Blacks don’t want to be successful?” My enslaved grandfather fought for his country in the Civil War, led a strike for fair wages in 1876, & died a success—in poverty. Your ancestors left you wealth, mine left us a nation. pic.twitter.com/cyE4NaIgmi

I really hate Jared Kushner is even a thing. We are forced to pay attention to what he says because he exerts influence in spaces that, like most of his colleagues, he is completely unqualified to occupy. But “Black folks don’t want success” is a common narrative. So...

Jared Kushner wants to distract white voters with images of “complaining” and “lazy” Black people so they won’t vote to make billionaires like the Kushners pay their fair share in taxes. Our country will be truly great only when we put an end to their divide-and-conquer tactics. https://t.co/GPRm2ioC2E

Jared Kushner knows his father-in-law’s cadence when it comes to talking about (not to) black people. Patronizing and superior, it is guised in a fake altruism that must cast a spell only on the most foolish. To the rest of us, it simply sounds villainous. https://t.co/1wppUs5YOK

Jared Kushner looked down a live news camera, and told the American people (and the world watching) that Black Americans do not “want to be successful.” Vote that ENTIRE FAMILY OUT. NOW.

Jared Kushner speaks as if Black people are lazy complainers who don't want to be successful. This blatant DISRESPECT shows he has NO understanding of the Black community and its challenges that have spanned centuries. You can't "fix" these problems from this level of ego. pic.twitter.com/fmILMVbrzY

This thread is an especially good read.
This how the 1% look at minorities. I was a classmate of Kushner let me tell you what I did to get into Harvard compared to what he did. Yes a thread. https://t.co/efjtTuhdbW
