Forgotten Trump daughter tries to win votes from her ‘gay friends’ at disaster called ‘Trump Pride’

Forgotten Trump daughter tries to win votes from her ‘gay friends’ at disaster called ‘Trump Pride’

As Republicans across the country infringe on gay rights, Tiffany Trump—Donald Trump’s lesser-known daughter—insisters her father supports the LGBTQ+ community. In a hard-to-watch speech given at a rally called “Trump Pride” on Oct. 17, Tiffany Trump attempted to garner her father votes by promising a “cure for AIDS” and assuring the audience she has “gay best friends” her father knows about.

That’s not all: During her claims she also misspelled the LGBTQ+ acronym, leaving out the “T.” She said: “I know what my father believes in, prior to politics he supported gays, lesbians, the L, G, B, Q, I, A, plus, community, OK?” While it is unclear if she did so willingly, the fumble was disrespectful. The “T” in the acronym stands for the trans community, a community that has been ostracized for years globally. Additionally, Donald Trump and his supporters have long made negative comments about individuals identifying as trans, making Tiffany’s inability to include the “T” that much more suspicious.

The event may have been called “Trump Pride” and its website may maintain that Donald Trump supports gay rights, but Donald Trump is clearly no ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Not only has he revoked Obama-era measures protecting trans students in schools, but he has supported policies that ban trans individuals from not only partaking in sports but serving in the military as well.

Not to mention he removed the word “transgender” from various government sites upon his appointment—but now has added it to his pride rally website in a pathetic attempt to garner votes. “President Donald J. Trump is the only President to openly support the LGBT community since his first day in office,” the event website reads. “President Trump stands in solidarity with LGBT citizens by supporting and enacting policies and initiatives that protect the wellbeing and prosperity of all gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Americans.” But make no mistake, Donald Trump has rarely made comments on the issues that affect the LGBTQ+ community, and has not shown support outside of an occasional tweet acknowledging pride parades. The rally event’s name in itself erases the significance of pride and gives attention to the Trump campaign.

So while Tiffany Trump tries to argue that her father “cannot be bought off” and that no one can “change his views,” she fails to acknowledge that her father’s views are homophobic. In addition to all the policies the Trump administration has passed that have targeted the LGBTQ+ community, Donald Trump’s nomination for the Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett, is expected to further abolish protections and enforce anti-gay policies.

On the second day of her confirmation hearings on Oct. 13, Coney Barrett made a comment that clearly depicted her views on same-sex marriage, which sparked Hawaiian Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono’s response addressing the valid concerns the LGBTQ+ community has about Coney Barrett’s nomination and the impact of it on their constitutional rights, Daily Kos reported.

But Donald Trump’s policies and decisions that negatively affect the LGBTQ+ community don’t matter to his daughter. During her speech, Tiffany Trump seemed to single out activists as liars when claiming her father supported the gay community because of his acceptance of her friendships. “People you, unfortunately, see on social media, you see these fabricated lies, it saddens me. I have friends of mine and they reach out, they make up stories [and ask], ‘How could you support your father? We know. We know your best friends are gay,’” she said

“I say, ‘It’s because my father has always supported all of you’. He’s not doing it for politics and unfortunately I think there’s a lot of other politicians who do. Since being a businessman, he says what he says, he means it, perhaps it’s a little too hardcore or honest, but don’t we want someone who’s going to get up there, speak and make it happen?” she continued.

In her horrific 10-minute speech, Tiffany Trump even attempted to appeal to the small crowd by discussing AIDS. "Unfortunately, one of her best friends passed away from AIDS and what I think is so powerful when my father says there will be a cure for AIDS within the next 10 years, there will be and God bless," Tiffany said.

Her speech has since gone viral on social media, with many, including congressional officials, calling her and the event out for the hypocrisy that it spread.

“Donald Trump is delusional if he thinks he can spend three years attacking our rights and then turn around and ask for our vote,” said Michele Rayner, civil rights attorney and the first Black queer woman to be elected to the Florida House of Representatives. In a statement to South Florida Gay News, she added: “Waving a rainbow flag for an afternoon means nothing after his administration appointed dozens of anti-LGBTQ judges to federal courts, codified discrimination against transgender Americans, and are fighting to overturn the Affordable Care Act, and its protections for our community.”
