We are one week away from the most important election of our lifetime. But as a Bay Area resident, it can feel frustrating to know it will really be decided in a handful of states that are hundreds (or thousands) of miles away from us.
And with COVID-19, a lot of us miss the camaraderie of being around like-minded people. While there are many ways to volunteer from home, we don't have campaign offices this year.
That's why Manny's—a politically themed restaurant at 16th & Valencia in San Francisco's Mission District—has set up get-out-the-vote Victory Booths on their sidewalk as a safe, coronavirus-compliant way to do in-person volunteering to reach voters in swing states.
Manny's has built a series of plexiglass booths on the sidewalk along Valencia Street where folks can make phone calls and send text messages while being around other volunteers. And because it's a restaurant, the staff who help you set up your shift will also take your order.
I have been volunteering from the Victory Booths at Manny's because as an extrovert I personally find the experience of phonebanking from home by myself to be a little isolating. It has been really nice to do this work at Manny's, and I encourage you to join me.
The phonebanking and textbanking you will be doing is from some of the same get-out-the-vote programs we at Daily Kos have already been recruiting you to do via email. The difference is you will be doing it around other people. Personally, I find that it’s good motivation.
Click to sign up for a shift at Manny's, and come join us at the Victory Booths.
See you at Manny's!
